Judging by their warm-up matches, if England come up against uninterested opponents missing their best players throughout Euro 2016 they have half a chance.

RiversUtd150Badge of the week ~ Rivers United FC, Nigeria
The Sleepy Elephant is a big figure in Nigeria. He is a storytelling character who appears in a moment of crisis and calms everyone down with an old story declaimed in his marvellous sonorous voice. A story within a story if you will. The thing that marks The Sleepy Elephant out from a host of other troubadours and storytellers in folklore is his propensity to fall asleep halfway through telling a story, usually leaving his rapt audience high and dry without any resolution.

In the fabled war between the sharks and the dolphins, specifically commemorated in Rivers United’s crest, the elephant arrived just at the right moment, as all the sharks were assembling to mount an assault on the dolphins because they were jealous of the dolphins’ public image. The Sleepy Elephant heard about the trouble and came specially to tell his story, The Little Boy Who Was Jealous Until He Had It Beaten Out Of Him, but, true to form, fell loudly asleep two thirds of the way through the narrative. Fortunately, the sharks and the dolphins were united in their frustration at the stupid elephant and became friendly again while signing a petition of no-confidence in him. Cameron Carter
