23 June ~ Paddy Power’s James Ellis examines the odds on England’s game today

England are a backable 4/9 to win this match and seal a spot in the last 16 – anything other than that and it’s out of their hands. Paddy Power have taken more money on England but more bets on Slovenia at 7/1 – people are willing to part with more money on the Three Lions while the smaller-staking bets on Slovenia are from the value hunters and people from Scotland.

You can get yourself in the mood with one of the 111 different bets on England v Slovenia and grab a free £20 bet which get when you sign up and place a bet of £10.
4/9 England Win
3/1 Draw
7/1 Slovenia Win
England have a habit of making things difficult for themselves but eventually overcoming the odds. Wayne Rooney has been too quiet so far this World Cup but how long can this last after the season he’s had? He leads the first scorer market as a 7/2 chance or even money to score at any time. Or will the introduction of Joe Cole into the side provide a spark – he’s scored in previous World Cups so will attract support at 9/1 to open the scoring this afternoon.
First Scorer
7/2 Rooney
5/1 Defoe
11/2 Crouch
7/1 Lampard
15/2 Gerrard
9/1 Joe Cole
25/1 Terry

The World Cup goals have finally started to flow and England will have to add to that solitary Steven Gerrard effort if they are to progress. A repeat of the 2-1 Wembley win would pay 7/1 and be enough to send England into the next round. Despite the lacklustre effort in front of goal there’s a chance they could bounce back in style and make countries take notice – don’t be surprised if England win 3-0 which is 9/1 with Paddy Power.
Correct Score
9/2 England 1-0
5/1 England 2-0
7/1 England 2-1
9/1 England 3-0
12/1 England 3-1

What I said here - given once again I will be offered the "choice" as to whether I want to read an item included on the site because of the commercial arrangement the publisher has entered into.

Here's something else I've got the choice about.

Whether to renew my subscription when it lapses in August, consider whether you need my money if you've got this "commercial arrangement" with a bookmaker who finds it funny to offer bets on whether the US President will see a full term, on the sex of an international athlete, and finds it funny to feature television advertisements where cats are kicked into trees.

Rest assured, a letter from the "real World" will be winging its way to your letters page, it will outline my objections to deciding Paddy Power's money is more important than mine, it will offer you the opportunity to decide from where you want to derive your income.

Don't know why you're so stroppy, Guy - these pieces are as funny as wingco's match reports. I'm looking forward to the odds for the Germany match and the thinking behind them. Rooney hat-trick in the first 30 minutes - 4/7 on. England to win 16-0 - 5-1 outside bet.
