THE HALF DECENT FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

18 November 2009 ~ The back page of today's Sun describes how David Sullivan has "demanded a free 50 per cent stake" in West Ham if he is to invest £40 million in the club. In return (if you can call it a return) the Icelandic owners have to ship out, take their debts and leave West Ham to be run by the man who recently departed from Birmingham City. As the story has developed, the papers seem to be less concerned about whether it is true or not and more interested in the apparently expanding debt. While the Mail have settled on £40 million, the Sun is now suggesting that it's three times that amount. The West Ham messageboards have been packed with reactions to Sullivan's announcement. "He's a very cynical and manipulative cheeky twat," sums up the feeling that Sullivan is being a little disrespectful with his offer. Others suggest that he has "ruffled Straumur's feathers" and is "putting off potential buyers" through releasing the story. One fan, though, most likely speaks for most of the West Ham support in saying: "How sad that I'm just feeling grateful that someone is actually interested in us." Sean Bower
