The stadium was opened in 2010 and replaced Morecambe's traditional home of Christie Park which had been their home since 1921, the year after their foundation. Plymouth won this fixture 2-0 watched by 2,081 spectators, in a game delayed by 30 minutes due to traffic congestion affecting travelling Argyle fans. Many still didn't arrive until half time, while one supporters' coachload made it to Lancaster Services – after 11 hours of travelling – before finally having to turn back without seeing a ball kicked.
