13 March ~ Going into this weekend Aston Villa were bottom of the Premier League, nine points from safety, while Spurs are having their best season in a long time and are second, just five points behind Leicester at the top. Villa fans have postponed a planned walkout on the 74th minute of the match following recent new appointments to the board, including that of former player and manager Brian Little. The Out The Door On 74 group still hope to force a change of ownership, and are asking owner Randy Lerner to reconsider his asking price for the long-term good of the club.
A repeat of the match between the two sides on April 15, 2000 would boost Villa’s slim survival hopes. Then, they went 2-0 down at White Hart Lane, with Steffen Iversen and Chris Armstrong getting the goals. However, Villa came storming back. Dion Dublin scored a penalty then a spectacular overhead kick, before Benito Carbone lobbed Ian Walker and Alan Wright hit a thunderbolt to complete the turnaround.
The result left Villa in sixth place, where they finished, and Spurs in 12th – though they did climb to tenth by the end of the season.
