17 January ~ Liverpool and Manchester United will meet today having both drawn their midweek games 3-3. On January 4, 1994 the two produced a memorable match at Anfield which ended in the same scoreline.

United were leading the league by 12 points while Liverpool were eighth, and it looked like the visitors had the three points won within 23 minutes. Steve Bruce opened the scoring with a header, Ryan Giggs scored a sublime chip and Denis Irwin put a free-kick into the top corner. However, two minutes later Nigel Clough started Liverpool’s comeback, and he scored again to make it 3-2 on 38 minutes. It was left to Neil Ruddock to equalise with a header 11 minutes before time.

The two teams finished the season in the same places – United winning the title by eight points, Liverpool down in eighth.
