15 November ~ Republic of Ireland go into the second leg of their Euro 2016 play-off with Bosnia tomorrow hoping to benefit from home advantage after a 1-1 draw in the first leg on Friday. This is the fourth time Ireland have had to compete in the Euro qualification play-offs, and they have only won one – a 5-1 aggregate victory over Estonia to reach Euro 2012. In December 1995 Ireland – having finished second in their Euro 96 qualifying group behind Portugal, ahead of Northern Ireland only on goal difference – met Holland in a play-off at Anfield.

Patrick Kluivert scored twice, ensuring a team including Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Marc Overmars and Dennis Bergkamp would return to England for the finals the following summer. The match turned out to be Jack Charlton’s last as Ireland manager as he resigned shortly after. Below is the RTE News report following the defeat, which includes interviews with fans both at Anfield and back home in Ireland.
