No Rushden & Diamonds keeper has worn number in memory of Dale Roberts

icon awards113 August ~ In December 2010 Rushden & Diamonds goalkeeper Dale Roberts committed suicide, just a few hours before he was due to play in an FA Trophy match against Eastwood Town. In memory of Roberts, Rushden & Diamonds retired their No 1 shirt, a tradition which was continued by the phoenix club AFC Rushden & Diamonds when they were formed in 2011. However, the Southern League are now forcing the club to register a player with the No 1 shirt, after a request for special dispensation was refused. The club have now launched a petition against the decision, which you can sign here.
