AP and Movietone release historical footage on YouTube

1 August ~ The Associated Press and Movietone have uploaded a huge archive to YouTube, with current-affairs videos ranging spanning 1985 to the present day. Among them are plenty of snapshots of football history, from more well-known colour footage of the 1966 World Cup final, to Huddersfield’s trip to Highbury at the start of the 1951-52 season. Caption information for context is often sparse, while many of the videos do not have sound, but below is a small selection of Movietone football videos.

A history of covering football, from its easiest days to the 1971 European Cup final at Wembley.

Arsenal host Huddersfield Town at Highbury on August 18, 1951. The match ended in a 2-2 draw and Arsenal went on to finish third in the table, while Huddersfield were relegated.

Colour footage of the 1963 Scottish Cup final between Rangers and Celtic in front of nearly 130,000 at Hampden Park. The match ended 1-1, with Rangers winning the replay 3-0.
