2 May ~ Everton v Aston Villa is the most-played fixture in the English top-flight, having first played each other in the inaugural Football League season in 1888 (a 2-1 win for Villa). On May 5, 1990 the two teams met at Goodison Park for the final match of the season. Aston Villa had been chasing Liverpool hard for the title but by this match had settle for second place, while Everton would finish sixth. The entertaining 3-3 draw included Tony Cascarino scoring at both ends, a superb free-kick from Gordon Cowans after Neville Southall had handled the ball outside his area.
