18 April ~ Bristol City play Coventry City today having already clinched a return to the Championship with a 6-0 win at Bradford City in their last match. Coventry, however, still need points to stave off relegation to League Two. The two teams were both in danger of dropping out of the old Division One when they met in their final fixture of 1976-77. But once news came through that their relegation rivals Sunderland were losing – via a message displayed on the Coventry scoreboard – the match was played out as a mutually beneficial draw.
