THE HALF DECENT FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

6 April ~ Manchester City head to Selhurst Park today knowing they can’t really afford another slip-up if they want to retain the Premier League title, while Crystal Palace are comfortably in mid-table. In the 1980-81 season City were the mid-table team while Palace were locked in a relegation battle. In their match in November City got off to a great start, with Kevin Reeves scoring after just 13 seconds. Gerry Gow made it 2-0 but Palace battled back in the second half through Ian Walsh and Tony Sealy. It was left to Gow to score his second and the winner for City. Palace ended the season bottom of the table with just 19 points and didn’t return to the top flight until 1989.
