THE HALF DECENT FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

4 January ~ Chelsea and Watford play in the FA Cup third round this weekend nearly 45 years after their first ever meeting. That occasion in 1970 was the Cup semi-final, played at White Hart Lane on a pitch that looked more like a beach. After Chelsea took the lead, their second-tier opponents levelled at 1-1. However Dave Sexton’s team, who finished third in the League that season, rallied to win 5-1. They went on to beat Leeds after a replay in the final.
