THE HALF DECENT FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

14 December ~ Manchester United and Liverpool meet today having shared 38 League championships between them. However, it is rare for them to both occupy first and second positions in the top-tier – the most recent season they managed it was 2008-09 and before that 1987-88. In the latter Liverpool went until March unbeaten, before losing at Everton and then Nottingham Forest in the space of a couple of weeks. It gave second-place Manchester United a chance to close the gap a little before travelling to Anfield for a thrilling 3-3 draw. However, Liverpool still won the title by nine points.
