7 December ~ Wycombe play AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup second round today hoping to recreate their 2001 run to the semi-finals. In that season, Lawrie Sanchez’s Division Two team beat the original Wimbledon, then in the second tier, 8-7 on penalties after two 2-2 draws. One of the goals in that match, and the final Wimbledon penalty miss, can be seen in the video below, which includes the famous quarter-final win over Leicester City and the subsequent semi-final defeat to Liverpool as described by the Wycombe captain at the time, Keith Ryan. Six months later Wimbledon announced their plans to move, which resulted in the formation of AFC Wimbledon.
