THE HALF DECENT FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

5 October ~ West Ham host QPR today in the early stages of a season in which at least the visitors will be satisfied with just avoiding relegation. However, when the two met in 1984 they were both vying for the European places. With a Trevor Brooking-inspired West Ham in fourth place, they took a 2-0 lead over sixth-place QPR through goals from Geoff Pike and Tony Cottee. However, two goals by Clive Allen, the first including a superb piece of skill, levelled the match. QPR went on to finish fifth, while West Ham faded to ninth.
