THE HALF DECENT FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

23 June ~ Chile and Holland play tonight with both teams through but looking to win the group. In 1962, when they hosted the tournament, Chile lost their final group game 2-0 against West Germany, having already qualified for the next round by beating Switzerland and Italy. Chile's third-place play-off win at that tournament was their last victory at a World Cup finals until South Africa 2010, despite qualifying four times in the intervening years, and even reaching the second round in 1998 with three draws. Horst Szymaniak and Uwe Seeler scored the goals for West Germany in the below video, which also includes a familiar chant from the Chile fans.
