From WSC 221, July 2005

icon manutd29 May ~ Former Manchester Utd owner Malcolm Glazer has died aged 85. The Glazer family bought the club for £790 million in May 2005, putting United over £900m in debt to finance the deal despite protests from supporters. Even after the takeover had gone through, fans still hoped to drive the American out even though they received little sympathy from rivals or those further down the pyramid, other than AFC Wimbledon and Supporters Direct. In WSC 221, from July 2005, Adam Brown – who cancelled his season ticket – explained what action Manchester United fans were taking against the "Glazer occupation" of their club.
