THE HALF DECENT FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

25 April ~ West Brom know that a victory over almost-safe West Ham at The Hawthorns this weekend will edge them towards Premier League survival. In May 1986 the clubs met at the same ground in different circumstances, with West Brom already relegated and the Hammers in second place chasing Liverpool for the title. After the home team pulled back a two-goal deficit to level at 2-2, a penalty by Ray Stewart gave West Ham their sixth victory in a row. It wasn't enough and defeat to Everton on the final day meant a Merseyside one-two with the Hammers in third.
