Excuses used in 1999 from WSC 149

icon bayernuk1 April ~ Manchester United face Bayern Munich at Old Trafford tonight in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. While United are going into the match as underdogs, given their relatively poor season – especially when compared to Bayern, who have already won the Bundesliga – it brings back memories of the 1999 final in Barcelona. United scored two late goals to beat Bayern 2-1 and secure the Treble. However, the German media were quick to put that Bayern defeat down to bad luck, even if other German fans weren't, as Ian Plenderleith explained in WSC 149, from July 1999.
