Kick-off times and travel requirements

icon nopolice9 January ~ Newcastle United and Sunderland have issued a joint statement condemning Northumbria Police's control of kick-off times and indicating that they will ignore them in future. Referring particularly to derby matches between the clubs, the local police force had apparently demanded they kick off no later than 1.30pm, despite similar high-profile games starting later in other areas of the country. They also indicated that the restrictions on ticketing and travel imposed on fans was demanded by police for the next Tyne-Wear derby and will now be scrapped.
