Colour video footage from 1959-60

icon tv131 October ~ The Look at Life series, presented by the Rank Organisation, ran throughout the 1960s and consisted of ten-minute "featurettes" on aspects of British life. In this episode the focus is on football, covering a week in the life of players and fans before culminating in a match between Tottenham and Manchester City at White Hart Lane. The colour footage offers a vivid picture of the game at that time, including the ordinary lives of the footballers off the pitch, their training techniques and life on the terraces for fans. Manchester City won the match 1-0, as league-leaders Tottenham faltered during the crucial 1959-60 season run-in and eventually finished third, behind Wolves and champions Burnley. The FA Cup final at the end of the footage appears to be from the 1958-59 season, between Nottingham Forest and Luton.
