40 years since they began

icon awards131 July ~ As the Bundesliga season begins in Germany one of their biggest clubs, Bayer Leverkusen, are likely to be wearing shirts without sponsors. It isn't through lack of looking, rather that Leverkusen have had two bad experiences with companies in the past and have decided that it might not be worth the trouble. It is 40 years since shirt sponsorships were pioneered by Eintracht Braunschweig in Germany and Uli Hesse, author of Tor! The Story of German Football, has charted the history and controversies that surround them.
