Lack of a long-term plan

icon mancininew14 May ~ Manchester City have sacked Roberto Mancini exactly a year after they won the Premier League title. City's first championship since 1968 and was supposed to start a wave of success, after also winning the FA Cup in 2011. However, as Tony Curran explained in WSC 305, July 2012, the lack of "home-grown" players and an apparent long-term plan was always a concern. Now they seem to be lining Manuel Pellegrini to take over, who himself was under pressure at Real Madrid in 2009 – with Mancini a suggested replacement.
