What the data from one million matches tells us

Scoring rate has declined

By using data from over one million football matches, gathered by online community FootballFans.eu, we can see that the average amount of goals scored per game since 1901 is 2.77. Yet there is more to see than that. The most common result is 1-1, the rate of scoring has declined over the years and if you want to see goals, Liechtenstein is the place to go (4.85 goals per game), while Morocco is to be avoided (1.78).
