Harry Pearson voted 42nd greatest Teessider
Inspired by Alan Foggon article
16 January ~ Long-time WSC contributor and former Guardian columnist Harry Pearson has been voted the 42nd greatest Teessider of all time. The poll, on GazetteLive, ranked Captain James Cook first, Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson third and Brian Clough sixth. Harry is the author of The Far Corner, a book charting his tour of football grounds in the north-east that was runner up in the 1995 Sports Book of the Year awards. According to the Gazette story "When Saturday Comes claims to have published the article about former Boro striker Alan Foggon which inspired Pearson to pick up his pen". We don't just claim to – we did. Here is proof, from WSC 25, March 1989.
