17 April ~ Going into the clasico this weekend, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have scored 41 goals each in la Liga this season. Valencia, who are third in the league, have scored 50 goals between them. Whatever the outcome of the matches this week – remember, Messi has never scored against Chelsea – it is safe to say the Barcelona player will receive more praise than Ronaldo. As Hunter Davies put it in the New Statesman: "Only one of them is truly loved and admired. Fans across the world go kissy kissy for Messi while the same fans, all of them being experts, and all with a way with words, go 'what a wanker' when it's Ronaldo." According to Davies, the world dislikes Ronaldo because he is a "flash git".
