8 March ~ Last night's game between Havant & Waterlooville and Dorchester Town was delicately balanced at 1-1 when the away team's player-manager, Ashley Vickers, rugby-tackled a streaker, and was promptly sent off for his troubles. As Vickers told the Dorset Echo: "My only thought was to get hold of him so we could get on with the game. I managed to grab him and bring him to the ground and the funny thing was the stewards actually thanked me for it." Dorchester went on to have two further players sent off and Havant won 3-1. Vickers went on to say, "In hindsight I perhaps shouldn't have done it but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I'm sure people will crucify me for this but I have broad shoulders", while the streaker was unavailable for comment.

I remember a similar incident when Andy Hessenthaler tackled a streaker at Franchise Fc. Gills fans there will recall it was a crucial game we were losing and playing poorly and this moment gave us a hugh lift and we went on to win the game any avoid relegation.

A somewhat bizarre interpretation of Law 12 requiring a player to be sent off for violent conduct. I really don't think this is what Law 12 is for. Ho hum, referees eh?
