7 March ~ Manchester City Council are supporting plans for creating a "global sporting capital" on the land adjacent to the City of Manchester stadium. Yet while they talk about the importance of sport to the local community, the same local authority has withdrawn funding for FC United's proposal to build a new stadium in Newton Heath, the first home of Manchester United. Community initiatives don't count for much when set against the prospect of hosting Britain's national taekwondo team.
