THE HALF DECENT FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

21 October ~ Ten-man Ajax were under pressure from Auxerre in the final stages of Tuesday's Champions League game at the Amsterdam Arena. Then, however, the away side's striker Dennis Oliech received a second yellow card for punching the ball into the net. Seconds later, Auxerre substitute Jean-Pascal Mignot was sent off before even getting onto the pitch. Mignot had been urging the referee Olegario Benquerenca to hurry up, in an episode also notable for the official's flamboyant brandishing of the red card. Ajax held on to win 2-1.
