They might be tired after a long season, the league they play in is full of foreigners, they can't adapt their playing style to an international tournament – so if Wales get past the quarter-finals what new excuse will people make for England?

Two chaps in suits shaking hands. Nice, but uninspiring. The words, "Never give up", however, are inspiring. But surely if one was going to have the club motto "Never give up", one would employ a more stirring image to accompany it.

I can think of three immediately that would be more suitable: a brown bear sweeping leaves in a gale, a man listening to his landline voicemail and waiting for the automated voice to actually give way to the message itself, or an old hag with a log. And that’s just off the top of my head. Two smartly dressed people shaking hands is surely not quite the image to go with a rousing rallying call.

Also, while we’re on the subject, "Never give up" is not necessarily good advice. If you were having trouble finishing a sandcastle Taj Mahal on the beach during a United Nations drone attack, giving up would be the advisable thing to do. As it would be if you were ten miles short of the finish line in a triathlon when suddenly beginning a major bowel evacuation. Without a sensible context, "Never give up" is quite irresponsible advice really. Cameron Carter
