Back in December the FA unveiled plans for an "England DNA" to ensure that a certain style of play is replicated at all levels. "The only thing that should change is the size of the shirt," said the head of elite development, Dan Ashworth. With England Under-21s knocked out of their European Championship at the group stage this week, it seems they have already acheived their target.

Logan150Badge of the week ~ Logan Lightning FC, Australia
There’s something missing here isn’t there? We know the team hail from Logan and that they play football – we know this immediately from their badge. However, the team are called Logan Lightning. Is it possible that the idea of a lightning motif somewhere conspicuous in the crest has actually not been raised at any point? When the club’s founders first met with the artist or design team, mentioning that they required an image for their badge, and when the design team had confirmed the club’s full name, is it possible that nothing pictorially occurred to anyone in the room that day? Other than a football?

It is like having a team called Budleigh Salterton Blue Ducks with no picture of a blue duck on your badge. Or having a picture of a brown stoat. Or anything other than a picture of a blue duck. Why no lightning? After all, lightning is a pretty cool image to have on your badge, at least it is if you’re the kind of person who uses the word “cool” in any context other than temperature, or the word “monies” because it sounds more corporate and professional somehow than saying “money”, the correct word.
