Gabriele Marcotti was born at the San Carlo hospital (whose car park provides overflow parking for the San Siro). His dad's job saw him grow up all over the world (Chicago, Warsaw, Frankfurt, New York, Tokyo and London), mostly in places where football was a bit of an afterthought. Somehow, operating in the pre-internet era, he tried to stay in touch. Today he covers world football for the Times and the Premier League for Corriere dello Sport.  He writes regularly for the Sunday Herald, and La Stampa and can be heard on Radio 5 Live and the Times podcast. He has also written three books – Paolo Di Canio: The Autobiography, The Italian Job and, most recently, Capello: Portrait of a Winner.
