What a charming story. Don't ask why, but it reminds me of wet playimes at Primary School spent reading old Roy of the Rovers comics, which the dinner ladies would produce from these ancient cardboard boxes. I remember once being unable to finish a story as the pages were stuck together with what appeared to be dried vomit.

Yes, lovely piece. I remember in the 70s when kids at our school would occasionally make a trip to Wembley (not counting our annual school trip to the zoo and a schoolboys international, which didn't really count), they'd come back with souvenirs and the match programme, whether it was an England game or a final, and we'd all gather round and make envious noises.

But even aged 10 going to my first U15 international at Wembley, like the author I can remember the rush from the atmosphere that first time I walked up and into the arena - it almost knocked me backwards. Not surprising - up until then I'd only ever been to Sincil Bank, Blundell Park and The Old Showground.
