TOPIC: AEB wobble

it's just that... well... i don't know how to say this, but...

i want england to win euro 2012.

i think it's mainly because steven gerrard is playing well for a change and i'd like him to finally get some success with them. but they have a lot of quite likeable players and they have suffered a lot.

greece would be good too, for obvious non-football reasons. and i've always liked the portugal team, whose performance has got worse at every successive tournament since 2004.

my euro winners in order of preference.

england
greece
portugal
czech rep
italy
france
spain
germany

I also want England to win. Or Italy. I got them both at 14/1 before the tournament. I fancied Italy before the start, and I still think there's something about them. England were the longest price I've ever seen from before a tournament, and considering the amount of money I've won over the years by betting on England to draw & lose over the years (25/1 v Australia, 9/1 v Chile, the Algerian draw being the biggest highlights), I wasn't going to miss a price like that, just in case.

My euro winners in order of preference:
England
Italy
Czech Republic
Germany
Greece
France
Spain
Portugal

An England victory in which Walcott and Welbeck were prominent would create some cognitive dissonance for Sun-reading racists who want the team to represent WASP values. But my gut wants the best technical team I've ever seen make history with three consecutive major tournament wins. So my order:

Spain
Portugal
England
Germany
Italy
France
Czechs
Greece

Do you imagine such people are commonplace?

Stevie G would have to get new glass doors made for his trophy room though. Think of the trouble winning would cause him.

Sir Steven G would have no worries about trophy cabinets, he could just go and stroke his life size statue on Wembley Way every year.

Looking at the fixtures, I'll go:

- Portugal
- Greece
- Can't choose, will see how I feel when the game's on
- Italy

As long as it goes that way, I am not that bothered who wins the final v Greece.

Germany

It occurs to me that I don't really like any of the other teams left.

So just to be sure then, TonTon, on an "AEB" thread, you've said, you want Italy to win. So you're AEB, yeah?

Well I am still a bit thrown by seeing "AEB" instead of "ABE". But yeah, anyone but England, really. I am anti-England. Yeah.

Germany to protect my er, investment. Failing that Greece or Czechia as the outsiders.

England are still just behind an Alawite punishment battalion co-managed by Bob Mugabe and Cristina Fernandez. But Woy and some of the younger players seem like decent chaps.

Glad to see the old guard aren't for wobbling.

Me neither.

When I sat down to watch the France game, I decided on a whim to forgo my normal AEB sentiments and at least try to get into behind the closest thing to "my" team I will see in international football.

Then I watched the Sweden game in a pub full of Englishmen on holiday, and had a massive anti-anti-AEB wobble.

The Ukraine game I sort of drifted out of watching after an hour.

Now I don't know what to think.

Threads like this will be recalled in years to come as examples of the summer that OTF went weird.

Even more embarrassing (in AEB terms), I'm a native of the Яepublik of Mancunia...

I think I'm feeling more patriotic by virtue of distance and lack of exposure to media coverage. Plus there's really not many English folk in Munich.

Also this is the first championship where I haven't been shouting at Steven Gerard. Seems he's finally knuckled down and is doing what he's told.

Really don't fancy an England-Germany semi though. Bound to end in disappointment.

Fucking hell Gacia.
One year living in England and your hand extends towards the nearest St Georges cross.

Before you know it, you will be drinking Stella instead of Guiness and voting UKIP.

It looks like its just me Bryan and Moonlight Shadow left.
May the lord have mercy on all your souls as your ancestors still buried in their chains of oppression turn in their graves.

I may play a loop of Jonathan Pearce's "There's a growing feeling that England's boys can win it...AND WHY NOT?!" that marred tonight's commentary to any quislings on here turning their back on their true ABE credentials.

For me;

Portugal
Italy
Germany
France
Spain
Greece

gap of infinite proportions
