What, you think I'd let Berba start it!?

Luka Modric vs The ghost of Roy Keane's dog

Vedran Corluka vs Jedward

Slaven Bilic vs Some deranged twat who's managed the biggest cunt of a club in Italy, twice, and is amongst the biggest football loons ever to walk earth

Nikica Jelavic (holy shite, 30 goals in 45 games for Rangers and 9 in 13 for Everton) vs What!?

Croatian National Anthem sung by fans inside the stadium vs 150,000 Irish stuck without tickets stood by a fountain in a city square somewhere not heard of when the game is on the telly.

I love these mid-major battles (in NCAA Basketball, the smaller Division I schools, such as the teams that make the tournaments every year but will never win it.)

USA will never win this one!
And they rarely do any one which matters.

Well, 53 goals in 115 games ain't shabby - it's unlikely three straight draws will suffice for either side to progress, and certainly both teams will be looking at this fixture to pick up their only victory of the campaign. Although, so long as Italy don't win earlier, stalemate wouldn't be fatal to either side.

arrived in poznan about an hour ago. many more croatian fans in the square than irish, because the ireland fans are all still asleep.

i have no idea how it's going to go. they could outplay us, or we could break their hearts. i can't handle any more build up. i just want this game to start

Slaven Bilic?
The cunt whose shocking acting got Larry White banned from the '98 World Cup Final?
The twat with the tight suit and the ear ring?
The dadrocker who knocks out crappy Eurorock on his electric guitar?
'Dude, he's fuggin' crazzee'.

Definitely a game where you want both of them to lose.

Heard there was crowd trouble there yesterday.

The presence of Italy in a group sometimes means that three draws is enough. If Spain get nine points, you could even get the other three sides level on two each.

Hence I don't think Croatia will bust a gut to get three points if Italy have already lost to Spain. Ireland might have to be really poor not to get a draw.

Obviously you didn't see us against Slovakia earlier in the season...

Go back to scotland, and give us back our island.

But they keep telling us the famine's over and we should go home.

I'm confused.

You think Croatia might not go for a win?
That's a rather new one, for an opening game.

I'm off!
To downtown Gothenburg to get the flags up and distribute the flares and get this party going which I'm hosting.

My thoughtful and reasoned preview of the game:

Come the fuck on Croatia.

dear oh dear dalliance, i thought you might wish ireland well for the sake of your old buddies in dublin. this little nation that has endured so much.

Well garcia, it reminds me of the line in Blackadder II when Queenie tells Blackadder that she sometimes thinks of having his head chopped off just so she can see the look on his face afterwards.

Replace Queenie with All Football and substitute Blackadder with Berbaslug and I'm sure you get where I'm coming from. He's already been driven half mad by Man City and Chelsea, one more significant psychological blow, whether it is Ireland befouling the competition or England gloriously bestriding it might be enough to see him have some sort of major breakdown.

And I think that would be fun. .
