TOPIC: I wonder how the England players are feeling now?

I bet Peter Crouch for one, is as sick as...

Given the high quality of football at this tournament, and the low quality of football England were serving up in the qualifying group, I'm guessing they're secretly relieved that they aren't being humiliatingly spanked on a very public world (or continental) stage, finishing bottom of their group and denied even the traditional quarter-final-exit-on-pens. Seriously, they've dodged a bullet.

Why would England players feel sick as a parrot anyway? As Rhino says, there is little evidence to suggest that they'd be in with a great chance to win this tournament.

Yes, I think it was a joke.

Thank f* neither Ireland or ye are there, they'd have been out of their depth. The top four players would've come up against team-mates that'd know what to expect from them.

Yes, Nico, it was.

There's never any harm in reposting that photo, whatever the context.

Quite so, and I got the joke, was just flagging it up in the light of G-Man's analysis of the validity of the players feeling as sick as a parrot.

They probably could not care less, sleeping in beds of money with dog faced brides

Nice.

I guess it will be a cold day in hell before anybody dares to suggest on here that in retrospect England were in an incredibly tough qualifying group. The two teams that qualified are playing better in each game and it would be no great surprise right now if either Russia or Croatia won the competition.

But, you know, it's England, they're there to be ridiculed.

I think England would've been contenders for the tournament, I mean how could we have failed with the accurate shooting of Frank Lampard (don't forget that Serie A giants, Inter, are after him), the tireless running of Gerrard, the surefootedness of inspirationa captain John Terry, the indefatigabilty and robustness of lil Mickey Owen, the playmaking skills of Jermaine Jenas...I mean I could go on.

We'd have been a shoo in for the semis at the very least, I haven't seen a single team so far that hold a candle to England's indomitable warriors.

(I may've been out in the sun slightly too long this morning)

Russia weren't playing like that in the group, Steveeeeeeeee. Certainly not in either game against England, or in their game in Tel Aviv.

As for the England players I'd hazard a guess that half of them aren't even bothering to watch Euro 2008.

I'm not having that England didn't qualify cause their group was too difficult, Out of the home nations they had the easiest group by all reckoning

Are you racially profiling me, Hofzinser?

Struggling against Russia and Croatia is one thing, but Bo Seleccao writes as though the 0-0s with Macedonia and Israel never happened.

Also, let's not rewrite history. England's group was considered relatively easy when the draw was made, and England were expected to win it.

Well, not in the first two games of the group. Oh, I see what you mean.

Bo! seems to forget that quite apart from lagging behind Croatia and Russia (the latter of whom seemingly doing their best to throw qualification away at times) they actually finished with an almost identical record to an excreable Israel side ;

Team Pts Pld W D L GF GA GD

England 23 12 7 2 3 24 7 +17
Israel 23 12 7 2 3 20 12 +8

If you perform the same as Israel, whoever the other teams in the group are, you have stunk the place out.

"incredibly tough qualifying group", my fat Welsh arse.
