One of the more entertaining fourth quarters I've seen in the evening match between the Jets and Pats, where the Jets pegged back a 10 point deficit with 2 minutes to go, then the Pats fumbled the kick off return on their own 30. Field goal for the Jets made it 26-23 with :45 to go....only for the Pats to sneak in a last second field goal. Pats take it in OT.

Talking more selfishly, NFC North beginning to be a humdinger. Bears need to win against the Lions tomorrow to go back to the top with 5-1, after the impressive Vikings (5-2) and the Pack (4-3) win tonight. The Lions, from what little I've seen this season, look a much better team than their 2-3 suggests. When was the last time this division was more than a two team division?

My guess is not since the Barry Sanders-Reggie White-Brett Favre-Tony Dungy-John Randall-Dennis Green late 90s.

Of course the Bears really sucked during those years.

Bit pissed off with the Jets, coming so close then letting it go, especially with Sits # 2 being a Pats fan.

I notice New England were wearing a really olde-style kit, what's that about? Are all the teams taking a turn through the season? The Jets were in standard attire.

The Patriots break out the Pat Patriot getup one or two times a year.

I'm not a big fan of the throwback uniform trend. Some teams had really ugly ones back in the day. They're best kept in the basement.

Flynnie--I sometimes now find myself saying "Go Sheldon!" when the Pats make a big play. That game last night was a heart attack waiting to happen.

I thought it would have been funny if the Jets had lost by 1 or 2 points in regulation. Sanchez would have had no one to blame but himself.

I know people don't think very highly of the Pats at times, but I think the Jets have to be the least likeable team in the NFL. They just have no charisma whatsoever.

I would root for the hated Giants over the Jets any day. And I do when they play each other.

I would say throwbacks are better than the real thing 90% of the time. Pat Patriot > Flying Elvis, and it's not close. The normal Patriot jerseys look ridiculously dated, just painfully ten years out of date. The Falcons and Vikings also suffer from this problem and look miles better in their throwbacks.

Simple bold colors and simple helmet designs are almost always better and that's basically what throwbacks are.

The Bucs are one of the exceptions to this rule, however.

The only throw back the Jets have is Mark Sanchez fumbles.

I agree that the old Patriot uniforms are a million times better than the swooshy minuteman. But I'm not a Pats fan. I wonder if the fact that the Patriots have been so much more successful with the new uniform has made any fans prefer it.

The creamsicle jerseys and Bucco Bruce are brilliant.

The Pats are 6-0 at home in the throwbacks.

Agreed with Inca on the Buccos, too.

The Pats always wear there throwbacks against the Jets, don't they? I mean, they could wear Ice-cream maid outfits against the Jets and have a 4-0 record if they gave it a chance.

The Patriots normal uniforms were already a few years out of date when they were introduced in 1993. They look very USFL-ish. Many USFL uniforms featured a swooshy logo intended to evoke "movement" with silver or gold.

A kit that featured Patriot Pat with a navy blue jersey would be a good update.

I liked the old Buccaneers uniforms better, too, at least the logo if not the color. The new one looks like a seven-year-old boy drew it. Some fans probably thought the winking, arched-eyebrow Buccaneer Bruce was too swish, but they're just in denial about the obvious homoeroticism of NFL football.

My grandma lived 20 minutes outside of Tampa, so I always liked the creamsicles. The color really matched the city and palm trees and warm weather well. The swashbuckling Errol Flynn captured the libertine tendencies of the area.

One of the scariest carloads of people I ever saw was this black camaro pulling out of a trailer park by grandma's house, and basically it was driven by shirtless pcp-smoking pirates with black hair coming out of every part of their heads with tans nearly the color of the camaro. Somehow the light orange swashbuckler captured them, Santo Trafficante's yacht parties, Jimmy Buffett, death metal and Kevin Sullivan's Army of Darkness at the same time...

...but in a fun way.

John McKay in his fishing hat was also outstanding.

I wish the Bucs were able to have competed better in the 80s. It was neat having the two Bays in one division, Green Bay - Tampa Bay. I really like the NFC South now, but I miss the days of seeing the creamsicles in Soldier Field in December.

However, it's nice to know that with their throwbacks they wore against the Saints, they can still come up with old school Yakety Sax-inspired defense with the jerseys.

Indeed, the Dolphins' uniforms are just as evocative of the typical 1970's grandma's bathroom as the old Bucs' tangerine dream kits, but because the Dolphins had a lot of success in those colors, they're regarded as "classic and distinctive" while the Bucs' are regarded as an embarrassment.

Enough about fashion. How long are the Jets going to put up with Sanchez? I'm not good with numbers, but is he the worst QB in the NFL? If he isn't, he should be.

ETA: Google says that he isn't the worst--he's somewhere in the middle, according to this. I don't know how accurate that ranking is, but it answered my question.

Sweet Jesus the Bears left it late today. I was at the Pats/Rams game but I spent the entire last quarter frantically refreshing my phone and not paying any attention to the game in front of me.
