I seem to remember Die Antwoord are playing over here soon. It might be at the Bangface festival or it might be elsewhere. <scurries off and actually checks> No, it's ...two weeks today.

Given that it's labelled 2007 this track clearly isn't new in the strict sense of this thread, but John Maus' Bennington - hooky, new wave-y electropop - is new to me, here.

While I fear this lumps me in with the too-cool-for-skool-hipster-doofus-loafer crowd, I’m loving Alt-J’s first attempt - An Awesome Wave. Several stand-out tracks, including this one

The new Wintersleep album is good, but not great, which is shame. Actually, that seems like a heartless way to some up months of work.

Might want to take a look at your link there, Slightly.

Just purchased this album - the whole thing is superb, without doubt my favourite album of the year, just shading Mid Air by Paul Buchanan.

I like it. I don't think it's amazing, but I also don't agree with the backlash that seemed to form against the hype for them...a lot of people were saying "that's it?" when it came out.

This will make me sound like a silly old bastard, but here goes.

On the subject of Poolside, I actually like the description "daytime disco" but where I part company with the text on the page that Inca links to is the idea that that kind of music is relaxing. I mean I gave it a try but the weight of the kick drum just makes it sound absurd to me. Just because a track is not paced at 130bpm doesn't make it a soundtrack for winding down: how can you relax when the kick ensures that you're bouncing off the walls?

I suppose you're right. I don't know if they meant "relaxing" as in "lay around the house and get ready to fall asleep for a nap," but more as in "sit outside and get drunk with some friends," though.

Haha. I suppose you're right. If they tried that caper while living next door to me I don't know how relaxing they'd find it with me shooting at their heads, mind.

Thanks for that - I had no idea he had released a solo set. That's just fucking gorgeous.

The super-prolific DVS NME has a new album out very soon (if not already).

From that: 'Unobtainium'

It's a little overlong, given its simplicity, but still solid earworm material for the Electro fans.

I'm enjoying this at the moment. Spiky male/female vocal pop.

Yes, I like that. Clive's one above is quite good, too.

Big shouty pop choruses from French Films on the tracks Escape In The Afternoon and The Great Wave Of Light, here.

Like the DVS NME track, evilC. Can't go wrong with those sorts of classic sounds.

Bit of hauntology/faded tech-folk from the likes of epic45 solo projects My Autumn Empire and The Toy Library, on a tremendous EP of Hood cover versions. Free download from here.

The DIIV album received an extensive play in the SB household this weekend. The latest Sun Kill Moon record also has some excellent moments and lyrical flourishes (he's a right dry bastard).
