TOPIC: Diageo in corporate bullying shocker

It seems the drinks giant has scored a huge own goal by preventing North East "punks" Brewdog from collecting a best bar award at a ceremony in Glasgow. The trophy had even been engraved with the rightful winner's name!

It does make me wonder how much this kind of thing went on in the background before social media allows the little guys to get their message accross.

Nice.

Incidentally, Pete Brown's book Man Walks Into A Pub is an enjoyable, educational read. If you like that sort of thing...or beer...or reading.

Think I know what you mean, lot of 'style', some substance but often a shower of wankers.

The whole 'let's make really fucking strong beers to get ourselves in the paper and show how anarchic we are and when that stops working we'll stick the bottle up a hamster's arse and use that as a selling point' just makes them look lie attention seeking cunts.

That and their shit pub in Edinburgh with chalkboards TELLING you what is acceptable behaviour while you drink their average beers grates hugely.

Actually I've made my mind up, they're cunts.

Their Punk IPA is a thing of beauty, but I can take or leave the entire "punk" thing.

Brewdog have got "new real ale hipster twats" oozing from every pore. It's for the sort of people who think the Euston Tap is London's best place to drink. Not a fan.

Do what? What constitutes "acceptable behaviour?"

Do I need to add that I buy mine from Mr. Lawrence, and take it home in a black bag surrounded by cans of Stella?

A load of raised eyebrows shit about not spilling beer on the floor, not dropping glasses on the floor or YOU would be made to clean up your mess. More shit about not asking for the music to be changed because your tastes are SHIT COMPARED TO THEIRS as E10 says - new real ale hipster twat stuff.

If you want good Scottish craft beery kind of stuff may I suggest the infinitely superior Williams Brothers range. Plenty good cask ale up here as well should you wish to avoid these gomerels and their products.

Blimey. They sound like utter bellends. And I can't see Steven Gerrard liking the place, either.

I couldn't imagine anything I'd rather have less.

And Williams Bros are currently offering free shipping if you buy three cases online. So my Nan will be taking delivery of a selection of their fine beers sometime next week...

So seems like we've come down on the side of the corporate bullies in this one. That'll learn the Brewdog tosspots.

Anyway, the model of how to do New Real Ale is Brodie's Beers and the William IV in Leyton High Road. When it became a micro-brewery run pub (brewed out the back), they didn't ponce around it with its interior at all. They've kept it a regular, locals' pub on a busy if scruffy high road. They still show football on big screens, they still host Christening parties, wedding receptions and funeral wakes in the back room. And the beer's cheap as chips. I'd encourage Brewdog's people to watch and learn, except I don't actually want them in the pub while I'm trying to have a pint with my mates in peace.

Thirded on Williams Bros - whenever I'm up north, I'm forever scouring the shelves of beer-friendly supermarkets for bottles of Rooster to bring back down the road.

I went the new Brewdog bar in Manchester last weekend (over the road from the Free Trade Hall). I wouldn't say the bar staff were especially "hipster twat" material, but the clientele were. Or maybe i'm just a bitter old man now.

The only thing that did annoy me was selling "nips" (less than a single measure of spirits) of beer at £5 a pop!

Is that Sink the Bismarck? That's really chuffing good.

I like them, fuck the wah but they're hipster stuff. They're really wannabe American beer nerds, their MO is very much ripped off American microbrewers.

Diphtheria?

It's a close-run thing.

Yeah, I think it was. Some 40-odd% daft beer.

I've been some of the microbrew pubs in New York and really liked them, so if Brewdog are trying to rip them off, they're making a bit of a hash of it. Funnily enough, when I was in one called The Gingerman, the US representative of Brewdog was at the bar trying to sell to the owners.

Dunno owt about Brewdog, but anyone British who uses a single finger as an insult is an utter twerp, and can be totally ignored.

We would advise them to drink some craft beer. To taste the hops and live the dream. It is hard to be a judas goat when you are drinking a Punk IPA.

Walk tall, kick ass and learn to speak craft beer.

The smugness is strong with them.
