Arby's and fast-food roast beef in general (Hardee's and Roy Rogers too) is great. An underrated American innovation. But there are so few left. The one in State College, which was there forever, suddenly gave up. Nobody knows why. Nothing has moved into the location. It's surprising because a few years back, some jackass ran is car up and over the curb and took out a big chunk of their building on the side. They rebuilt it better than it was before, indicating that the business was healthy, and then all of a sudden they just went out of business.

We don't have any more Hardees or Roy Rogers any more either.

There used to be an Arby's on 322 right before you get to the Susquehanna on the way to Harrisburg. Did good business. But now it's gone and replaced by a Sheetz. Incidentally, the former State College location of Arby's would also be an excellent place for a Sheetz.

Hardee's has roast beef? My assumption was that Hardee's and Carl's Jr. had the same menus, and there's no roast beef at Carl's Jr. Never seen a Roy Rogers.

In the east, when Hardee's bought Roy Rogers, they turned a lot of them into Hardees but continued to sell roast beef and fried chicken and maintained the Fixin's Bar.

How do you feel about the chirpy young redhead in the Wendy's commercials? I started off liking her, but she gets more irritating with each new spot.

Me too. I dislike contrived peppiness in ads at any time. Vernacular language also loses every shred of it's energy/effectiveness in that context.

Arby's logo/sign still looks like a dwarf's erection.

I find it sort of amazing that Wendy's is currently running two campaigns: one with the actress and one with Dave Thomas' actual daughter. Or, as I saw it called online, Real Wendy vs. Hottie Wendy.

Regardless, their burgers are too undercooked and grey looking, and Frosties are too thick to suck through a straw.

Real Wendy (U.S.), Hottie Wendy (Canada)?

I've never seen Hottie Wendy. But now I'd like to.

She seems like a cross between Alison Hannigan and Judy Greer.

She's cuter in this one, I think.

Either way, she's jumped the shark and is really annoying in the 'easy chair' spot.

Clarified.

I think I have seen the Hot Wendy, but didn't grasp that she was supposed to be Wendy.

Wendy really isn't a common name for girls, is it - hot or otherwise? It's really more of a man's nickname, I think.

Good call. 60/40 for Hannigan. I don't know Greer's work, but she was smokin' in her BBT guest spot.

I only know two Wendys. One is black, and one actually is a flaming redhead. I once read that Wendy didn't even exist as a name until it was 'invented' for Peter Pan. [Which, according to Straight Dope, isn't true at all.]

I agree. It's such a fine line between cute and irritating.

BBT?

I mostly know her from Adaptation (she was the waitress), Arrested Development (George Sr.'s secretary/mistress), and as the voice of the wonderful Cheryl Tunt on Archer.

Actually according to the definitive J.M. Barrie bio it is. He adapted it from a little a girl who used to refer to him as "My Fwendy."
