I've never been in a position before to watch one of these player cams that exist on some TV systems these days, but this evening I have experimented briefly with Fox Sports Australia's HeskeyCam. Now, I'll readily confess that I tried it out because Heskey is sort of a figure of fun, and the idea of a HeskeyCam is slightly amusing to my childish brain.
But, by christ, it's tedious. Why would anyone spend any time watching something like this? I don;t mean Heskey, but in general. I suspect it's worse with a forward since much of their game is spent loitering around the half way line, but I'd guess even a PirloCam would become old after approximately two and half minutes.
Who thought this would be a good idea? And why hasn't it died out yet?
Sky dropped it quite a while ago, though their's switched players every 15 minutes or so. I remember watching it once or twice, probably if Robert Earnshaw was playing for one of his post-Cardiff clubs.
Of course, the 'Zidane' movie is a (justifiably) glorified version of playercam.
