TOPIC: See Ya, Pia.

Pia Sundhage stepping down as USA Womens Coach.

As the Mia Hamm generation was winding down, they all went to Sunil Gulati to ask him to hire Pia Sundhage as coach. Sunil, being the pigheaded chauvinistic cunt that he is, decided in all of his wisdom to put the women in their place and hire a Division II college coach from a cheesy college in Colorado.

Instead of the dynamic attacking with runs all over the field that we got under Tony DiCicco, we got boot-it-to-Abby Stoke City/98 Norway tactics. Then the stupid benching of Hope Solo when she hadn't let up a goal in 3 games, then the destruction by Marta, then Hope mouthing off LIKE A BOSS, then the destruction of the team emotionally, tactically, result-wise, and spiritually.

Luckily Sunil decided that being a shit-for-brained know-nothing was better for him, and went with who the women wanted all along.

2 gold medals, World Cup Final, a united team that was so much fun to watch again.

For me, it's one of the better coaching performances I've ever seen. And Pia did it the right way - with honesty, with respect, and with a team that's fun to watch.

I hope she can bring Sweden back to the top again.

She'll be missed. I just hope that the team continues as they have and whoever follows doesn't try to change things because of their own ego.

Is she leaving just to go home/help her own national side or is there a problem with the USSF? I hope the former and I wish her luck. Sweden isn't as good as it ought to be in the women's game.

I do worry about who will be hired next. I'm not sure who is available or suitable. Not a college coach, I hope. Perhaps the coach of one of the more successful European club sides?

She'll be coaching Sweden's women's team starting on Dec. 1. She still will coach the US for these upcoming friendlies.
