I'll start the thread in the hope that Magik updates it this year.

To begin - any idea when the fixtures are announced Magik, looking to plan my week in Krakow accordingly come October.

Even the Wikipedia page says nothing on the matter - no Krakow derby this season after Cracovia's relegation.

Hi guys. The idea of beergarden is nothing complicated. You need a garden - i live ground floor so may pretend its mine. And u need beer, so with people from all over Europe coming to Sopot, beer is abundance.

On the other hand Djurgarden might be difficult - you need a garden an a Djur. what is a Djur?

I've got talking to Jon Walters today on the playground, my kids played with his, so now we re best mates. Almost.

Okay to the point, fixtures are out and i ll try to update the thread...Thanks to Rob for kicking it off. First step is awlays the hardest...

Fuck it, Wisla away to Legia. Back to Cracovia then by the looks of it.

May try Hutnik or or Gornik Wieliczka.

Or just leave Krakow alone and come to Gdansk...

Would be my preferred option Magik, I love the trojmiasto but it's not all down to me.

Any advice on lower league clubs in the Krakow area would be gratefully received.

The dream scenario was of course Wisla v Lechia that weekend but it wasn't to be.

Hard lines tonight bud, looked capable of it first half but there didn't seem to be much there come the second 45.

So the fun begins. Polonia's Warsaw mad owner (Józef Wojciechowski - JW for friends, he owns a company called JW Construction although some call it Deconstruction) sold club's licence to GKS Katowice. So Polonia won't be in ekstraklasa (top league) this season, there are two options now:
a) bottom tier - B-klasa meaning 7th league level
b) 4th division if they gather couple of zloty pronto.

Obviously media people are crying their tears as Polonia is the less obvious choice than Legia, a club for artists, journalists etc but they should be crying 4 years ago when Polonia bought a licence from Groclin Grodzisk to be promoted to ekstraklasa. What goes around comes around.

JW is (or rather was) the polish Jesus Gil y Gil, firing managers during matches. There is a story he was once on his yacht and his assistant was asked to put some whiskey for him, when he mixed with cola JW said - what have you done? you're fired for ruing such fine whiskey. Close to end of last season he employed another manager and asked how much would he and his staff like to earn during 3 remaining months of the season. They told him what would it be in total so he paid it at once and multiplied the whole amount by three. Etc etc. Various stories do the circulation nowadays....

He was also strongly linked with taking over my club Lechia Gdansk, as we have decent crowds (over 20k compared to Polonia's 3k), brand new ground and polish PM is a fan not to be underestimated etc the reason for that was he apparently studied in Gdansk, but what he studied was exchange rates near the train station. It was illegal to deal foreign currency under communism and the official rate was lauhgable so there were people doing it illegally. JW was one of them, he obviously had ties with security forces cause without he'd be arrested in 5 minutes. So in the mid 80s he disappeared for the US to come back as a rich man and after buying various land plots in and around Warsaw he became even richer as he built houses there...

So GKS Katowice who played in Europe for 10 years in a row from late 80s on take their place, but their fans already said won't follow it as they say it was a promotion in a sporting way. So the club will die but it's not know yet how soon....

Here in Gdansk there is a talk about russian guy Zingarevitch (the one who already owns Reading) buying Lechia. That's what Sash08 told me in a message couple of hours ago (hope he won't mind me putting it here): The guy talks a good game but not sure of the substance behind him, never mind the pile of dead bodies behind his daddy.

So interesting times indeed, jut not in a way everyone hoped for after the Euros. There was a football boom predicted not a merry-go-round-who-wants-or-buy-or-sell-a-football-club-at-a-very-reasonable-price...

So off we went this weekend! 24 goals in 7 games so far. Not bad for above 30 degrees celcius. Poor footballers had to endure such heat for only around 10k euro month being average salary.

Results:
Pogon Szczecin (newcomer) 4 Zagłębie Lubin 0
Thanks to Furtho for giving some info on Pgoń's Japanese player. The result will put a smile on Alderman Barnes' face...

Piast Gliwice (newcomer) 1 Górnik Zabrze 2

Jagiellonia Białystok 2 Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała 1

Widzew Łódź 2 Sląsk Wrocław (champions) 1

Lech Poznań 4 Ruch Chorzów 0

Wisła Kraków 2 GKS Bełchatów 1

Legia Warszawa 4 (hat trick by Serb tricster Daniel Ljuboja) Korona Kielce 0

And of course today to end up - Lechia Gdansk v Polonia Warsaw who didn't move to Katowice after all. Grzegorz Rasiak of Reading, Derby, Watford, Spurs (well sort of) fame plays for us this term and Razack Traore is still there. Ras-Raz to the rescue!

Nice result for Widzew. Troubled times for ŁKS, according to their Wikipedia entry?

Yeah problems in the City of Lodz. Widzew had to release more than half of their squad due to not paying them wages for 6 months or so. Wonder why the new coming ones want to sign at all, as they know what lies ahead? Not my business....

ŁKS is in even deeper shit. Couple of years ago bailiff had to take their coat of arms (if a football club can have one) to pay debtors.

It used to be this:

Now it's this:

The club is in second division paying 5k zloty at most, whereas minimum wage in Poland is around 2k...hard to survive with this kind of money...

And so it did. In fact all my Zachodniopomorskie teams are doing the business so far. Flota Świnoujście have a 100% record in the I Liga and even my local lot, Błękitni Stargard Szczeciński, got off to a winning start. One of these days I might even go to a game.

I see Pogoń play Lechia next Monday. Should be good.

Since when has this board been able to do Polish characters, by the way?

so Lechia lost to Polonia Warsaw 1-3 at home. Apparently Polonia side was full of hitch hikers picked up on the way up north. My son was in tears after the final whistle as expected what cheered him up high fives he did with all the players...

Yeah we play Pogon next Monday - its live on eurosport if you have nowt better to do. Might be tempted to go as its our closest away game (ca 350 kms) but what to do with the not so little boy?

I've never normally got anything better to do on a Monday (or any other day of the week for that matter). I think I'll tune in.

"Takes over" is not necessarily the right expression here cause she's been Warta's (Poznan's second club) chairwoman for some time now. She and her husband (who is a dodgy businessman) are in the development/building business and the club has got some nice properties and plots right in the city centre...

Of course it's all bit of a joke and PR stunt, she's been caught learing players names by heart before an interview and her man is really behind it. With a court sentence on his record he couldn't really be the face of the club...
