TOPIC: Oceania

The Oceania Nations Cup final in Honiara will be between... Tahiti and New Caledonia!

New Caledonia caused a huge upset by beating New Zealand 2-0 in the semi final. It will be amusing to watch Tahiti or New Caledonia playing against the likes of Spain in the Confederations Cup...

Trimster, you bastard! We were hoping nobody would notice. Grrr.

Still, some quality trivia for fact fans - two colonies (or whatever the French call them) meeting in a "continental" final. Do the teams line up and sing the Marseillaise twice?

Maybe the French will sneak some of their superflous international players over, so that the winner won't be too outclassed in the Confederations Cup...?!

These doubled up as WC qualifiers, but the semi-finalists qualified for the next round, so NZ not out yet. Still, congratulations to Tahiti, their 1-0 victory gives them a first title and earns them their ticket to Brazil.

You what, they've played the final already? I assumed the OP was posted after the New Caledonia-New Zealand game...

It was all condensed into a week. Here's where the games were played, in the Solomon Islands:

Now that's a Spion Kop.

Same as England and Liechtenstein...

I really want a group with Brazil, Tahiti and two teams replete with Manchester United players. It would be wonderful to hear Ferguson try and navigate through castigating games against Tahiti as pointless without implying the games against Brazil were also pointless.

Well Man United don't have any Uruguayans or Spaniards, so the closest you'll get to 'replete' is Brazil themselves (Rafael, if he even plays for them), Mexico (Hernández) and Japan if we sign Kagawa. Who in Euro 2012 has the most United players?

Tahiti would have that ominous look for Scotland if we had the slightest fucking chance of getting to Brazil.
