TOPIC: new LFC manager

i think they should go for louis van gaal.

liverpool's priority should be to get into the champions league as quickly as possible. they need a manager with authority who can whip the team into line quickly and get them playing positive football.

van gaal has won the league with every team he's managed, playing excellent attacking football. different types of teams too - gifted young players at ajax, millionaire brats at barcelona, journeymen & unknowns at AZ, a mix of the three at bayern. he has a gift for seeing the potential in players - as when he helped schweinsteiger to reinvent himself as a central midfielder. his teams work hard and play with brains and enthusiasm.

on the down side, he inevitably falls out with everyone and gets sacked, but by then liverpool could be back in the champions league.

if they appoint a young guy with a brief to "create a dynasty" the odds are he will be sacked early for poor results. managerial dynasties are overrated anyway, what counts is the quality of players in your squad. just get back into the fucking champions league, then take stock.

martinez, AVB etc all have things to recommend them, but none of them have a proven record of success that matches up to van gaal's.

Now, if only there was someone associated with the club you could tweet offering this advice...

Similarly England's erstwhile mascot?

not so sure about him. liverpool need to play a more attacking style. you need to win a lot of matches in the premier league. i'd rather have rafa benitez than fabio capello.

I thought this morning's suggestion of Redknapp was amusing.

I think Van Gaal would be good, he's good at bringing young players through too.

TBH I wish he was still Bayern manager.

Has Van Gaal even been linked with the job in any serious way? I would have thought he would have been a more obvious fit than many of the names mentioned, especially the other experienced candidates, like Guardiola, Cappello, largely for reasons given on the other thread.

well ronald de boer has turned down the job the only only two candidates in my view would be Van Gael or Alan Pardew

Yup, I'd go along with Van Gaal. He's not very young though is he?

They should go old school and advertise this job in a national newspaper. That led to me applying for the Manchester City job when I was about 9 years old.

Did you get it?

I applied for the Everton job when Billy Bingham got it.

I think I was shortlisted.

van gaal is six months younger than king kenny, two years younger than arsene wenger, and ten years younger than fergie.

If you hire Van Gaal, who is going to be the Director of Football?

Or do you do away with that idea?

Van Gaal is a bit of a slave to his system though isn't he. I am struggling to imagine how that would work with the current squad who are not especially technically adept.

Then you have Suarez who thrives in being allowed a free rein to roam around, I'm not sure that Van Gall would appreciate anything that could be deemed a bit random and I think that would diminish what is their best player after all.

One other point. Liverpool really need a positive face to represent the club to recover the ground lost under the tyrannical media image of Dalglish. Van Gaal isn't that man.

Nick Clegg?

After the money that Kenny wasted they need someone with a bit more self control. Fred Goodwin maybe? Bruno Iksil?

what is going to happen when van gaal inevitably pulls down his pants and shows everyone in the dressing room his cock? did anyone ever find out what exactly he was hoping to achieve?

Van gaal would be pretty interesting. Liverpool don't have the money to spend to get into the champions league, so they need a manager who can get a lot more out of the squad that they have.

All he has to do is tell half the squad that he heard they were burnt in effigy on John's eve, and the only way they're going to see 30 is if they do exactly what he says. That should get them in line. Then they'll do whatever he wants

Also falling out with everyone would be less of a problem at liverpool than most other places. Things are at a low ebb, the fans aren't that keen on the players, and there is a very strong tendency among the fans to take the manager's side, particularly if he can string together a couple of wins.

They should be happy giving it to anybody willing to take it, by the looks of things..

Van Gaal would be a good shout though, continuing the tradition of former P.E. teachers managing LFC (well, him and Houllier). Dalglish was similar, in that he taught me how to laugh all over again.

I'm unconvinced by this. I think that the lesson to be learned from swansea, is that if you can get players to think about what they are going to do next, before they do it, they start to look more technically adept. This can also be improved with practice, as Swansea have shown us. Players that are working in a well drilled system look much better because it all fits together well.

Then you have Suarez who thrives in being allowed a free rein to roam around, I'm not sure that Van Gall would appreciate anything that could be deemed a bit random and I think that would diminish what is their best player after all.

Alternatively, having a bit of shape put on his game might radically increase the amount of goals he scores. There is serious room for improvement there.

One other point. Liverpool really need a positive face to represent the club to recover the ground lost under the tyrannical media image of Dalglish. Van Gaal isn't that man

hah, alternatively, you could also say that he's following the only manager who might make his appointment look like an improvement in this respect.
