He's never been the same player since his injury 3 seasons ago, losing a lot of the pace that defined him at Porto as a key creative force as well as a defensive rock. But he's still a great right-back and QPR have done well to get him.

I think this might be it -- they've already converted one defensive midfielder into a CB in Mascherano and Song seems to be even more of a natural fit, as he's quite a bit bigger and has some experience playing in that role. Of course they're very big on playing the ball out of the back and Song would certainly fit into that mold.

Song was destroyed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic when Barca played at the Emirates three years ago, and has spent only a tiny percentage of his career in that position. Why don't Barca just look for an actual centre-back who isn't inept in possession? The planet isn't teeming with them but they do exist.
