TOPIC: Transfer Rumours and Realities Summer 2012

Bayern have signed Mandzukic. With Gomez an automatic starter, I presume he'll play out wide - perhaps Robben is on his way?
posted 27-06-2012 16:14
Can't think that clubs would be breaking down Bayern's door for Robben after his spring.

What's his contract situation?
posted 27-06-2012 18:11
He extended his contract to 2015

How does he feel about Turkey, the Gulf or Dagehstan?

I'm thinking that there are going to a number of high profile players this summer who are going to be hard to move, given the current market and the advent of FPP.

surely robben is good enough to keep on shooting fish in that Fass for a while to come. And isn't mandzukic a bit tony cascarino/niall quinn to be playing on the wing?

Jordi Alba signs with Barcelona. 14 million euros to Valencia, a five year contract for the player.

I'm quite pleased, he will fit in well, but FCB still need more help at the back.

ah the prodigal jordi "you're too small to make it at barcelona" Alba returns from valencia, like Gerard Lopez before him. I hope his career lasts a little longer though.

Spurs are having a very good transfer window so far. They have managed to sell corluka to lokomotiv moscow for about £5 million quid or so. That's about £20 million for corluka, pavluychenko and krancjar. With king retired, and With nelsen and saha released, and adebayor not being signed, Spurs are going to have quite a blank sheet for the new manager, and a lot of space on the wagebill.

All that is left for them to do is force bassong, jenas, bentley, gomes and cudicini out the door, and allow the new man to make a decision on defoe, dos santos and pienaar (pienaar is in trouble in SA for kicking the shit out of the son of a govt minister, which sounds like one of those bad situations that will struggle to go away in the traditional way)

Luka modric Seems to be on his way to Real madrid, and a lot will hinge on whether or not spurs can make nuri sahin part of that deal. If they can get him, they will have the makings of a seriously impressive squad even before they appoint a new manager.

Lucio has left inter milan. Both sides just tore up the contract. That's very fortunate for inter because it ran for another two years.

Apparently NUFC have a delegation over in Enschede, working for a double deal with Twente for Luuk de Jong and Douglas (about whom I am very excited, and moderately excited about respectively).

I have dug out some stats I posted about Sahin's last season at Dortmund around a year ago.

He made the 4th most attempted passes in the Bundesliga. Dortmund scored an average of 2.07 goals per game when he was playing. Dormund only scored an average of 0.67 when he wasn't He won 83% of tackles which was in the top 10 for the League He created 104 chances for teammates which was the best in the League

They were pretty impressive I thought then and now. Mourinho is happy to let him go because he doesn't think he can play quickly enough to fit in his system at Madrid, I wonder if that would be an issue in England if he did decide to go to Tottenham, which he doesn't really seem to want to do.

hmm, They seem pretty intent on signing modric to do the precisely the thing that sahin is supposed to do. he managed 128 minutes of league football making two starts, being hauled off at half time in both, and two late substitute appearances. I would say that his position at real madrid is pretty grim. If Jose were to have a little chat with him, I'm sure that he might well consider moving on.

To be honest, I wouldn't be terribly upset if man utd were to sign sahin. those stats make him sound like a cross between roy keane and paul scholes.

It's a pretty big drop off from Real Madrid to Tottenham. Fair play to him if he thinks that he can convince the manager of his worth, it's not impossible to make a come back at Madrid after all, Higuain is a player who looked ready to be ditched and he stuck in and became a regular.

If Modric signs then he'll likely displace Khedira I guess. I did think he looked like their weak link last season - big, powerful turbo charged V8 engine slotted inside a cement mixer.

And Lucio has fallen on his feet, he looks likely to sign for Juventus!
posted 30-06-2012 17:50
hmm higuain may not be the best example there dalliance. Real persisted with higuain through a fairly ropy first year, but then he settled down, and he was the teams top goalscorer in the last pre-perez year. Perez might have wanted to replace him, but he was being picked in all the games and scored 27 goals. When is sahin going to get that chance?

Sahin might do well to consider the career path of sneijder, robben, huntelaar, or van der vaart. It's not that easy to make it at real madrid, but you can go on to considerably greater things. Then again he signed a six year contract. maybe he expects to be there for the long haul.

Just when it looks like juventus are finally getting a hang on this living within their means thing, they go and do something crazy like this.

Higuain was out of favour and would have been traded for the right deal. He didn't want to go, he got his chance and he took it and played his way into regular first team football.

If there is a difference it's that Madrid were going through coaches pretty rapidly. If the current one didn't like you, there might be a new one along next week who did like you and would argue your case to the President.

Mourinho looks like he will be there a while. If he doesn't like Sahin now, it's hard to see much of a way back.

hmm, higuain was only really available for a couple of weeks in 2009. He's not a good example at all. he had plenty of opportunity to play, and as a goalscorer could easily make himself look useful.

I think a much more apposite comparison would have to be RVDV who refused point blank to leave real madrid until his missus was finished her course of cancer treatment. he knew that he wasn't going to play any football, but he dug his heels in. Then again he was already a well established player, and had played nearly every minute of the season before. As it turned out, he played a reasonable number of

Sahin played 128 minutes of league football last season. He should take the hint.

How come everyone is in love with Theo Walcott all of a sudden? Differing sources have him linked with Chelsea, Spurs and Paris St Germain. This is despite the fact that there is no indication that he wants to leave Arsenal, and Arsene does not appear to want him to move on. Surely a 20 minute cameo in the Euros hasn't sparked an interest in a player that has ranged from inconsistent to wasteful of his talent over the past couple of seasons.
posted 01-07-2012 14:47
Sahin was out injured until the spring which is not the best time for new players to come through into teams chasing trophies.

I'm not sure what you mean about Higuain only being available for a few weeks in 2009. Madrid were touting him and Gago around as makeweights in other deals, Higuain refused point blank to move and that was that. He stayed and he changed minds at the club.

Barca need to start bring their own players through rather than nicking them off other clubs;
