Right then, Derry City - what do I need to know? This thread seems like the place to ask...

I'll be staying along the coast near the Giant's Causeway for a week and will hopefully be getting along to Derry v. Bray with a couple of mates.

I'm guessing we'll be able to get tickets on the day no problem. Any idea what a ticket costs? Can't seem to find that information on the club website.

£12 for the stand, £10 for the terrace - judging by the number of shops selling tickets, you'll have no bother:

Ticket outlets-
MYRA'S-Culmore Road.
JOBBY'S- Racecourse Road.
INK4Less -Northside Shopping Centre.
BRESLIN'S- Strand Road.
P.J's- William Street.
HARKIN'S- Lecky Road.
CENTRA-Trench Road, Waterside.
Derry City Social Club- Crawford Square.
Derry City Office- Brandywell.
The Links Filling Station- Hatmore.
Hole-in-the Wall(side of stadium) ( Match night).

New shop on the Lone Moor Road- Bottom of Bligh's Lane.
Think it's called " TERRACE STORES"

you can buy tickets at the ground, just before the entrance to our main stand. no danger of it being a sell out or anything, jvl. my father does this before every game. hope you enjoy it!

If your visit is extendable, they'll be playing in Belfast next Saturday, 12 May.

Congrats to DG on the Crue's dramatic penalty-shoot Setanta Cup victory - as I said at the start of the season, a Northern success was desperately needed to keep the tournament alive. Roddy Collins seems to have avoided liquidation for now, but Monaghan remain marooned at the foot of the table with 5 points after Tuesday's loss to the Candystripes. Elsewhere, a North double helped Sligo move six clear at the top after victory over Rovers, while Pats stumbled after being held by Cork. Evergreen Jason Byrne took his season tally to 8 with a double for Bray against Dundalk, but North leads the Golden Boot standings on 11.

Thank you Deputy Dearg. A Southern team at least reaching the final might be needed to prolong its life next term...

Though only a third through the season, the title race has become a three-way battle, with Sligo now eight points clear of Rovers and Pats, with fourth-place Drogheda a yawning 11 points adrift. Sligo secured an excellent 3-0 win over in-form Shelbourne, Grimsby native Danny North moving on 13 with another double, Scotland's Gary Twigg replying with a similar brace for 11 in Rovers 3-1 victory over Drogs. Bray played out a tumultuous 3-3 draw with Pats, Byrne remaining the leading Irish striker with 10, while Cork continue to climb the table after their 4-2 success against UCD. At the bottom, only 3 points separate 9th-place Bohs (2-1 losers to Derry) on 11 points to bottom-side Monaghan (who defeated Dundalk) on eight, but the Louth side are on the worst run of the teams in the mix.

Another good result for Bray. Looks like Jayo is going to single handedly fire us to mid-table.

Couple of questions... one, what has happened to Rovers' defence? They've conceded 17 already, I saw them shipping 5 against Pats but that's still an average of one a game in the other matches. Secondly, I notice there's a full round of fixtures on Monday evening - why is that? Does this mean the league is taking a break during Euro 2012?
posted 19-05-2012 14:51
Yes, the Euro break was agreed at the time the Premier was reorganised, so no League matches while the groups are on, but starts up again during the knockout phase.

So it won't clash with any of Ireland's games...

A mini-crisis for Sligo - after Monday's first loss to UCD, defeat to Monaghan has dashed hopes of a domestic double. None of the challengers made up any ground earlier in the week, with Rovers drawing with Monaghan, and St. Pat's surprisingly falling to Dundalk, but aside from the leaders, there were no major shocks in yesterday's Cup matches. Malahide ensured at least one non-league team in the last 16, with help from ex-Bohemians legend Glen Crowe.

Thanks for the tip (and to Diable Rouge for the info too) - we parked up just along from the stadium and got our tickets from the hole in the wall by the main stand. 10 quid was a bargain for that game: we had moaners' corner to our left and the Jungle Side Boys' drum to our right, and a decent game going on too.

The no. 15 who scored two for Derry had a shocker on the left in the first half, but turned it around with two good goals for them after the break. Bray will be wondering how they came away with nothing after pretty much dominating the first half but Derry deserved the win overall.

No idea what the attendance was though - it wasn't announced during the game and I can't find it anywhere on match reports or club sites. Is it always this difficult to find out how many people were at the match?

Odd - part of the FAI's licensing conditions is that clubs have to announce the match attendance, or at least keep detailed records, but nothing on Soccerway about this one. Along with Cork, Sligo and Rovers, Derry are one of the best-attended clubs in the LoI, with a 2,000 match average, so would be surprised if last Monday was much lower.

Pats narrow Sligo's lead to six as they brush Monaghan aside 4-0, while the leaders draw with Bohemians, and Rovers draw 1-1 with Cork. Bray continue to climb the table after beating UCD, Drogheda win the Louth derby with Dundalk, while Derry surprisingly go down to Shelbourne. With the league now not resuming til the 22nd, here are the tables:

Premier:
1. Sligo 14 31
2. Pats 14 25
3. Rovers 14 24
4. Drogheda14 23
5. Derry 14 21
6. Shels 14 21
7. Bray 14 18
8. Cork 14 17
9. Bohs 14 15
10.UCD 14 12
11.Dundalk 14 12
12.Monaghan14 9

First:
1. Longford 12 31
2. Limerick 13 27
3. Waterford13 23
4. Athlone 13 22
5. Wexford 13 19
6. Finn H 13 15
7. Mervue 13 8
8. Salthill 13 3

Limerick play Longford tonight.

Been a while since I've posted. Actually I suspect I have the worst view/post rate on here. And it's all a bit trickier on the ipad.

Any road I've off to Dublin again and will be able to take in the Pats, Rovers (at Dalymount) and Cork away games.

Old man GDU got ill and finally got his season ticket at the great stand in the sky in March, so I had to go home for that too. [Although he did look after me with the funeral arrangements, scheduling them around the Rovers game in Tallaght]. The eulogy came to me at the Crusaders game, Dunc. I sat in the stand in 'his' seat. Actually the Da would have liked the fact that a 'proper football' team from Belfast was visiting Dalymount.

All this means, I'll get to be at 6 Bohs games this season. Not bad for a bloke living in Sydney? Perhaps a recond?

And Rocky's still setting fire to my heart. Was chatting to a mate the other day and remembered Ferdia and the boys being in fine form as the opening act of Macroom in 1981.

Thanks CZ.

A case of a Gypsy Down Under
and another Up Above.

Just as well there's a few GDU brothers or the crowds at Dalymount would really tiny.

Sadly, today has been another bleak day for the League of Ireland, as Monaghan United have withdrawn with immediate effect. The club seemed to be the epitome of a well-run provincial soccer club, but have run out of money mid-season due to the failure to attract sponsorship, and will not be applying for a 2013 licence, instead reverting to junior football. The decision was taken so swiftly that the FAI have had to call an emergency meeting in Poland - thankfully, Roddy Collins can't be blamed on this occasion.

A sad day for all those collected with the club I guess, according to the linked article some of the players heard about this through twitter, is that really true? Seems shocking that did not call the stakeholders in to inform them first.
