TOPIC: The steel city is sinking: League One 2011/2012

One win for Stevenage will take 6th place out of the reach of Carlisle, thanks to their superior goal difference.

Another disappointing show from Carlisle at Hillsborough in terms of goal threat, though the sheer effort and defensive battling they showed in the second half was almost enough to hold out for an unlikely share of the points.

Would agree with cantagalo about the division looking likely to be weaker next season, for all the teams with upward aspirations this will be a summer where transfer activity is absolutely critical.

Hmmm. Last minute goal leaves a small modicum of hope. Still can't really see United dropping points in their last two games, but it remains to be seen what the Ched Evans effect will be on the rest of the team.

I saw this coming and the momentum is with you now I have a horrible feeling we have imploded and may not get another point. We are developing the ability to clutch defeat from the jaws of victory to an art form.

I hadn't realised when i previously posted that you played for a significant period against 9 men.

Wilson's may have to pull some Mourinho-esque persecution complex from somewhere to try and motivate the players. Still think you'll do it somehow. I reckon we need to win both to beat you and I still can't see that happening.

The battle for 6th took another twist - Stevenage's to lose now, albeit with a tough fixture next week.

Notts are playing one of their bogey teams away (Wycombe) who will be fighting for their lives, but they will go there knowing that a draw isn't likely to be enough. Six points from six is required, and that will still rely of Stevenage dropping points.

It's going down to the last day of the season...

On another note - Bury were tremendous on Saturday (Notts were sub-par, too, but that shouldn't detract from a 4-goal away performance).

Orient did a Jana Novotna and completely bottled a two-goal lead in the last 10 minutes on Saturday that would have virtually assured safety. Due to the haplessness of the other remaining relegation candidates we should still be spared the drop, but we really are a dire side with poor tactics and an appalling lack of confidence right now.

Bad timing.

The Guardian is doing its bit to counter the embarrassment of Mr Evans making the PFA team though. According to the paper this morning the League one top scorer list goes 38 Rhodes (Huddersfield) 24 Beavon (Wycombe) 22 Wright=Phillips (Charlton) etc etc etc. Stalinist shit.

Agreed. It is the Guardian so could it be an error?

Orient saved by late turn-arounds at Yeovil and Wycombe. There's a lot of sorting out to be done before next season.

So after various mediocre performances in recent games, we shake things up and put in some of the fringe and youth players. Cue another mediocre goalless performance.

A clear-out is overdue and inevitable. Left back Paul Black has already gone, glass-jawed centre-half Zander Diamond is rumoured to have been released, and good-but-not-lately striker Robbie Simpson may be returning to Coventry.

Why are the BBC reporting Graham Alexander scoring in the last minute of his last game before retirement. Is he not playing next week so he can make a farewell in a home game?

They were at home.

4-2 a distinctly end of season result for us, Bury now lead the race for top NW club in Lge 1, but it's close

Yeah, that was my point. Why is today his last game not next week?

Blimey. I didn't expect that. Wednesday win away at Brentford (quite luckily) and United can only draw at home to Stevenage...although they did come back from two down for that. A very nervous last five minutes at both grounds.

So, Wednesday one point clear with one to play..both of us playing teams now relegated. Jesus. Next week's game is going to kill me.

Ah, sorry I see. Well as he came on as sub for the last 6 minutes, it was probably to say farewell and assuming he doesn't get on next week.

Of course after tonight, Sheff Utd V Stevenage is likely to be repeated twice more.

Incisive journalism at its best in this one but Bracchi has missed the best parts, to become a hard core fan of their "beloved" Sheffield United young males are not only forced to clap rapists but they must also be willing to boil babies and worst of all live in the north and vote labour. What a shocking society we live in.

However, sticking in the throat somewhat, congratulations to Wednesday the run in since Jones arrived has been very impressive.

What actually happened with this? I read lots of stuff about how the people proposing this were being shouted down on boards, and there was talk that this 'protest' wouldn't actually happen, or be noticed.

Can I just say that I heart Notts County.

Much more than I heart the spineless, shambolic, defensively asleep, gutless rabble that I support.
